What we collect

Wheel-Mates is a static information site. We do not ask you to create an account, we do not run a newsletter, and we have no comment form, so we hold no name, email address or password belonging to you.

Analytics

We run two analytics tools, and they are not alike. The first is cookieless and aggregate: it sets nothing on your device, does not follow you between sites, and cannot single you out. The second is Google Analytics 4, which does set cookies — _ga and _ga_7JGRE8LTY7 — that hold a random identifier for your browser so repeat visits can be counted as the same browser rather than as new people. That identifier is not a name and we never attempt to attach one to it, but it is more than nothing, and saying otherwise would be false. Google is the other party to that data; its policy governs what Google does with it.

Things other companies see

Two blocks on this site load content from other companies, and they behave differently. Videos are click-to-load: until you press play, nothing is requested from YouTube, and after you do, it loads through youtube-nocookie.com under YouTube's own policy. The Steam store widget is not click-to-load — it loads from Valve as soon as it scrolls into view, without asking you, and Valve sets a cookie on its own domain when it does. Valve's privacy policy governs that. We receive nothing back from either.

Local storage

If you switch the colour theme, that one choice is stored in your own browser so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device and we never see it. Clearing your site data removes it.
